Feeling Happy

Feeling super-de-duper today since I found out that my floral card was a Top 3 Pick over at Create with Connie & Mary this week! Woo Hoo!

In case you missed it, here's all the details for the card. Have a "stamperific" day!

Color Challenge 21

I saw this color combination and my first thought was, "Hmm, not sure about this one." So I thought about it for a day and inspiration struck! Whew!

At first I wasn't sure if the colors would work well with flowers, but I think it turned out great! Using the new Garden in Bloom stamp set (LOVE IT!), they were a cinch to make. Add the splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge and the saying from Oh My Goodies, this card was getting better and better as I worked on it.

I even had a little fun and created my own little "Sahara Sand thread" by cutting super thin strips of Sahara Sand card stock and looping them like I would Linen Thread. They were easy to make and easy to work with. Yeah! Happy Stamping!

Creation Station Blog Hop - Heartfelt Sympathy

It's August. Yep, I had to look on the calendar to make sure. This year is just flying by. Months are disappearing before my eyes. Anyone else feel like that? The biggest thing happening to me this month is my baby is going to Kindergarten. Gulp! My little ray of sunshine, my pride and joy, the reason I became a mom is leaving me everyday in two weeks to go to school. Literally, I could cry! He's been my sidekick for the past 5 years. What am I going to do without seeing his smiling face and answering his bazillion questions all day long? Seriously, they need support groups for moms dealing with issues like this. I can't be the only one!?

Today's issue on the other hand, is another fabulous blog hop! Something else to think about....yeah!

For this time our options were -
  • Use Heartfelt Sympathy stamp set
  • Sympathy, Get Well or Thinking of You themed projects
  • Highlight the use of our Decorative Masks

Since I had the new Heartfelt Sympathy set in my possession, I decided that's the road I was going to take with my projects.

First up, I thought it would a little different to not only use the main saying stamp for the focal point but also as a background. I just stamped it randomly in Soft Suede ink on the Soft Suede card stock. Now for the main focal point, I embossed the words with our fabulous Gold Embossing Powder. The gold complements the Soft Suede so nicely in person. And did you happen to notice a little "somethin', somethin'" on the doily?

Here's a close up for you. I also embossed the edge of the doily with the Gold Embossing Powder as well! I simply swiped my Versamark Pad right along the edge of the doily carefully then embossed as usual. What a stunning effect it has! It really makes the focal point 'pop'!

For the second card, I chose to use the other main saying in the Heartfelt Sympathy set. I kept the card simple, with a slight twist. First up, how did I made that gorgeous sunflower? I die cut two of the same size Floral Frames Collection Framelits with our Crushed Curry card stock. I sponged the edges all the way around both die cuts with Crushed Curry ink. For one of them, I cut into the center of each petal, making them more 'individual looking' but still keeping it the full size flower. For the second, I cut each petal apart separately. Thus, making eight individual petals. I put adhesive on six of those individual petals and adhered them to the center of the large flower. Then I took my beloved Bone Folder and curled the ends of all the petals to give them more dimension.  A punched and embossed Chocolate Chip circle completes the flower. And the twist you are wondering about? Well, I didn't cut the base of the card to it's usual full size height of 5 1/2". The Whisper White card stock base is actually an inch shorter than usual. So the Crumb Cake, Old Olive layers and the sunflower 'extend up' to the 'normal height' of the card. In person, it's quite visually appealing.

Well, there you have it. Two projects using one awesome set! I'm so glad you stopped by today. I feel like Mr. Rogers and that I should be sitting on the bench changing my shoes and putting on my sweater when saying that. Flashback moment! Anyways....depending on where you started on this blog hop, you can go back and revisit Jen's mad stamping skills or you can hop along to see what wonderfulness Sarah has to share with you today!
